Berkeley Hills

Berkeley’s Berkeley Hills Neighborhood

If you’re searching for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area, the Berkeley Hills are for you.  Leafy, winding streets, spectacular views of the Golden Gate and spacious wooded lots provide a quality of life rivaled by few.  Located high above Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay in the Pacific Coastal Range, Berkeley Hills residents enjoy a lack of commercial areas, and are offered a secluded feel surrounded by recreational areas and parks, including Tilden Park to the East, the Berkeley Rose Garden and Codornices Park.

Housing

A showcase for architectural excellence, many famous architects such as Bernard Maybeck, William Wurster and Julia Morgan were inspired by and have contributed to the real estate found in the Berkeley Hills.  This diverse selection of homes gives the Berkeley Hills a uniquely rustic and historically rich feel.

Restaurants and Shopping

Devoid of commercial shopping areas just a few minutes away you find Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto and Solano Avenue, both offering numerous culinary and shop-browsing opportunities.

Family and Fitness

With a network of walking paths snaking through the hills and the local parks and wilderness areas, the Berkeley Hills are a hiking paradise.  Combine that with some world class cycling loops and there are no excuses to not get outdoors and enjoy the scenery.   For the kids there are the Steam Trains, petting zoo and merry-go-round located in Tilden Park.  And for an afternoon of hands on educational fun, plan a visit to the Lawrence Hall of Science.

Quirks

Well, what can we say it is Berkeley after all.  From the Hayward Fault running just to the east, the fogged in San Francisco Bay and easily getting lost on the windy roads, anyone looking to move to this area should know that they’d be living in one of the most unique neighborhoods in our nation.

Transportation

While slightly off the beaten path residents of the Berkeley Hills have convenient freeway access to Oakland, San Francisco and Silicon Valley.  Access to the Downtown Berkeley and North Berkeley BART stations are within a short ride.  AC Transit bus lines 65 and 67 also service the neighborhood.
